Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF)
ACF is the largest Australian national environmental organisation.

What we're doing to protect our environment:

Nuclear Issues/Uranium: ACF has been a consistent campaigner for a society focused on preventing pollution. In 2000 we will continue our struggle to close down the most toxic polluting industry of all time, the uranium industry. The global threat raised by greenhouse pollution will be an integral part of a number of our campaigns from anti-uranium to biodiversity to sustainable cities and industries.

Aboriginal Reconciliation: ACF will continue to work with Australia's indigenous communities to protect this ancient country and to revive the spirit of custodianship that once resonated across this land. ACF will campaign to protect natural and cultural values in conjunction with communities across Australia and especially in places like Kakadu World Heritage area, the Kimberley region and Cape York Peninsula.

Land Conservation: ACF will fight to end the continuing destruction of habitat crucial to our wildlife. In 2000 we will also be extending this work to assist the conservation effort of our neighbours in the Asia Pacific and to ensure that Australian aid focus s on ecologically sustainable development.

Water: For too long our oceans and waterways have been neglected or mistreated. There will be no ebbing of ACF's tenacious commitment to restoring the Murray Darling and other rivers to good environmental health and to ensuring our oceans and their ecosystems are protected and managed.

Energy/Greenhouse: Australia has the opportunity to be a world leader in renewable energy but instead risks being left behind what is already a multi-billion dollar industry. ACF will work to break our fossil fuel dependency. We will work with progressive industries and relentlessly hold governments accountable for their failure of leadership.
