Queensland Conservation Council
Is the major Queensland peak environment group.
What we're doing to protect our environment:
Native Vegetation Campaign: QCC's Native Vegetation protection campaign aims to halt broadscale clearance of native vegetation in Queensland, to substantially reduce greenhouse emissions from land cover change and to significantly increase the resources available for improved vegetation management.
Water Campaign: QCC's Water Campaign is focused on safeguarding Queensland's rivers and wetlands, as well as the abundant plants, birds, fish and other animals which depend on them, from further dam and weir construction and over allocation of water usage.
Sustainable Transport: campaign works to raise community awareness about the health effects of car emissions and to promote a reduction in car use.
Planning Campaign: The overall goal of QCC's planning campaign is to achieve legislative change within this term of government, and to substantially improve environmental impact assessment and good planning outcomes in Queensland.
The Great Barrier Reef (GBR): campaign aims to protect the World Heritage and biodiversity values of the GBR World Heritage Area and to address land based sources of pollution in order to protect water quality.
The Mining Campaign: aims to achieve high standard setting and rigorous enforcement by the Environmental Protection Agency and substantially improved environmental performance by the mining industry.
The Greenhouse and Energy Campaign: aims to reduce the demand for energy and power by encouraging a transition to renewable and sustainable energy.
The Habitat Protection Campaign: is focused on securing legislative reform to the Integrated Planning Act and other Queensland legislation to remove compensation requirements for saving the natural environment.
